OMF Derek Cox Architects is a long established practice, directly descended from the practice established by F.X.Velarde in the 1930’s in Liverpool and continues a long unbroken tradition of working for the education, community and religious sectors. We do also work extensively in housing, the commercial sector and others.
The practice concentrates on three areas of activity.
We DESIGN buildings in a range of fields from housing to commercial, specialising in education.
We ADVISE Our specialist advisory works through the mechanisms of Client Design Advisor (CDA) and Design Quality Indicator (DQI).
We CONSERVE We are experienced in both working with and conserving older buildings, with a particular interest in the adaptation and extension of historic buildings, and also the conservation of energy and the environment through sustainable design.
This new environmental centre for children was completed in 2008. It provides a focus for the charity’s work in supporting children in need and distress, and in particular building the confidence of vulnerable children through learning about the environment, food growth, preparation and healthy eating. The building incorporates a variety of energy saving technologies which are used as teaching aids.
Francis Xavier Velarde (1897 – 28 December 1960) was an English architect who practiced in Liverpool, Merseyside, England. He was trained at the Liverpool School of Architecture from 1920, and from 1928 taught at the school. In 1957 he was awarded the OBE. His works are located mainly in Merseyside and Northwest England, and most of them were churches.
