CONSERVE

We believe conservation has two often inter-related aspects. There is the conservation of older buildings and structures and then there is also the conservation of resources and the environment. The KIND Centre in Liverpool centre which won the LAS Sustainability Award and a Civic Trust Award, is an example of our approach to both types of conservation. Introducing a modern building into the middle of Canning Street Conservation Area, the building provides an array of sustainable technologies as part of the intention to demonstrate energy saving, ecological food production, and healthy eating to local school children. CONSERVATION of older buildings

The practice has a long track record of working with older buildings including for example Liverpool’s Catholic Cathedral of Christ the King. Although well experienced we will involve conservation specialists if the project requires it. The challenge we enjoy most though is the alteration and extension of older buildings finding appropriate solutions to enhance and update these historic places. Our work at Bluecoat Chambers - Liverpool’s oldest city centre building - involved introducing new access ramps and stairs in a highly sensitive location.  Few now will be aware that these are recent interventions. The Royal Liver Building, and the Cunard Building - two of the famous Three Graces - have been upgraded by the practice together with dozens on churches in the region..
